The East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) prepares young adults for employment, higher education, and leadership through programs focused on character building, college and career opportunities.
Based in East Oakland, one of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area, EOYDC works with young people who struggle with low grades, truancy, difficulties concentrating, aggressive behavior and histories of multi-generational poverty. Its core programs include academic tutoring and mentoring, college and career readiness, GED preparation and cultural enrichment. All of the programs are based on research demonstrating that interventions which foster relationships with caring adults, and mastery of technical and social skills, can lead to increased well-being and civic engagement among youth from high-risk environments.
