Alternatives in Action inspires Oakland youth to realize their leadership potential and prepares them for college, career, and community life through dynamic educational, skill-building, and real world experiences.
Alternatives in Action’s Career Pathways program teaches middle and high school students skills in the fields of Multimedia & Digital Arts, Child Development, Youth Development, and Education. Through its Community Impact program, young people identify a community need, conduct research, and then present a proposal for addressing it. Alternatives in Action also offers academic support and intervention, connects students to external internships, provides case management to individual students, and coordinates services for students across partner agencies. A focus on youth leadership imbues all of its programs.
